Symposium Health Care in  Romania, Geel,  September 27th 2014

Health  is the most important asset in a lifetime. In that sense, the care for a good health is a major task for each of us individually, but also a key task for all levels of government. During the 25 years of collaboration between Geel and Slatina-Timis and the existence 25 years of ADR Flanders, much attention has gone into the creation of a high quality, accessible and affordable health care for all in Romania. From these 'best practice' examples grown. These were set up with the support of many partners, but especially of LCM and CM Mechelen-Turnhout through our network in Romania. Since 2012, the start of the Romanian Foundation "The Open Network for community development," is healthcare a major division within this foundation. It isn't going well with health care in Romania, after the privatization of 1997 it is still in a transitional phase, it has too few resources (3.6% of GDP), and where difficult decisions are made with vision for the future. Meanwhile, more and more people are deprived of health care, especially in rural areas.

28 participants exchanged ideas on the Romanian health care and the challenges for the future. Best practice examples we have set up in Romania, were tested against similar initiatives in Flanders. Further, it was also sought cooperation to make our projects possible.
In Romania, we are working with The Open Network currently a local health plan "and in Flanders, in collaboration HICT a 'master plan' for our projects in Romania.
