Project coordinator of Romanian NGO awarded by Belgium ambassador
Bucharest, Nov 14 - Project coordinator of the Foundation for the Development of Associations of Mutual Help (FDAAM), Ioan (Johnny) Suru and manager of AdamSlatina-Timis has been awarded the high distinction "Knight of the Order of the Crown" by Belgium Ambassador to Romania, Philippe Beke on Friday.
According to a release the Belgium Embassy sent to AGERPRES on Friday, as of 1996, Johnny Suru has worked extremely well with Belgian experts as regards primary medical assistance at Slatina Timis rural town, the county of Caras Severin.
His dynamism and creativity led to the development of the healthcare centre, a successful initiative with more than 6,000 citizens as members at present," the release reads.
Attending the awarding ceremony were State Secretary Raed Arafat and Jozef Goebels, the chairman of the Flemish platform for rural towns in Romania (ADR) and chairman of the VZW Geels Roemeniëkomitee.
In his speech, Philippe Beke underscored the unique work carried out by Johnny Suru at the Slatina-Timis centre that started as a Belgian initiative, turning along the years into a fully Romanian concept of good practices.
Today, the healthcare centre at Slatina-Timis could serve as a model for the day care centres not only in Romania, but also in the neighbouring countries," according to the release.
The medical assistance centre was initially planned by the VZW Geels Roemeniëkomitee, a Belgian city in the province of Anvers, to provide the medical assistance services to the residents of Slatina-Timis and its remote surroundings.
