The plums are harvested in August and placed in large barrels to ferment.  After one week the barrels of fermented plums, and the required wood, are taken to the “cazan” where the Tuica will be distilled.  There are several cabans in the village.  Once distilled Tuica achieves 25-30° alcohol,   distilling  it once more creates “palinka” approximately 55°.  Tuica was, and sometimes still is, considered a panacea, a cure-all medicament.  Tuica is an universal "medicament" : from a stubbed toe wrapped in bandages soaked in Tuica, to all kinds of ailments.  Fortunately no one ever gets a headache from too much Tuica…
